NC / Intercoastal / Neuse River

Hi - We live in New Bern, North Carolina, on the Neuse River. The sailing is great here...navigable creeks everywhere make for perfect gunkholing.

The Neuse from the intracoastal to New Bern is a bit shallow so over 6 ft. draft vessels would have a difficult time. New Bern is a very old town founded by the Swiss and has many historical sites including a palace! The historical feel is complimented by carriage rides, trolley rides, and even a tour of the original birthplace of Pepsi-Cola.

Dockage fees at the local marinas are some of the least expensive on the east coast so we have attracted many cruisers who come in for a break and end up staying longer than they intended due to the wonderful amenities and crime-free small town atmosphere! We keep our Hunter 420 at the Sheraton Marina; however, there are many marinas in the area which accept transient boaters...Bridgepointe Marina and Northwest Creek Marina both have dockage for transients. We are a bit off the beaten path of the Intracoastal Waterway (about 12 miles up the river), but I believe that we're worth the trip.

I thought that you should include this area in your waterway guide!
